Divided Democrats included an attempt from former President Barack Obama to salvage the wreckage of his vice president’s debate while his own aides were more candid about the “f*cking disaster.”

Thursday’s debate between President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump offered up the clearest picture yet of why corporate media and politicians have focused so intently on selling fear for the latter over talking up the former. However, as pundits found cause to jettison the defense of the gaffetastic geriatric, Obama’s commitment, seen in his willingness to help fundraise with his Hollywood pals, left him casting out a desperate lifeline.

“Bad debate nights happen,” began a post on X Friday afternoon that had picked up nearly 75 million views in less than a day. “Trust me, I know.”

“But this election is still a choice between someone who has fought for ordinary folks his entire life and someone who only cares about himself. Between someone who tells the truth; who knows right from wrong and will give it to the American people straight — and someone who lies through his teeth for his own benefit,” argued Obama, directing social media users to Biden’s campaign site. “Last night didn’t change that, and it’s why so much is at stake in November.”

While it appeared that the Democratic Party’s golden boy was referencing his own flubbed performance against then-former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney in their first debate matchup of the 2012 presidential election, a parallel that other talking heads endeavored to make, the co-hosts of “Pod Save America” were not so forgiving.

“I think it was a f*cking disaster. I think it was maybe the worst debate I’ve ever seen in my entire life,” said Jon Favreau beside his cadre of former Obama aides, Jon Lovett, Dan Pfeiffer, and Tommy Vietor.

“Donald Trump is a threat to democracy, Donald Trump is just a despicable human being, he should not be president, we have to do literally everything we possible can to make sure that he is not president again, and that is why it was so f*cking awful because Joe Biden in every single way failed at that debate,” he added Friday morning.

While the podcast included their own montage of marble-mouthed moments, Trump’s campaign had released a 90-second highlight reel that captured just how bad a night Biden had delivered.

“Debates are a performance and what you say and how you say it both matter and so the optics to start there were very bad tonight,” contended Vietor. “He had to answer concerns about his age, I think he exacerbated them. His voice sounded frail. There was an answer where he kind of stalled out halfway through.”

“I’m also worried that there might not be another debate because if you’re Trump, you might be thinking, why not just leave it at that?” wondered the co-host.

Piling on, Pfeiffer said, “If Joe Biden had given a B-minus performance last night, we would be talking about Donald Trump. He lied, he made very little sense, he didn’t answer any questions.”

While Trump himself remained skeptical of the possibility of Democrats opting for a replacement candidate, saying Friday, “No, I don’t think so. They wouldn’t have done any better. No one else would have been better,” Favreau acknowledged the discussion had to be had on the left.

“It would be silly not to have this conversation,” he said during the podcast. “The best thing Joe Biden did is to propose this debate before the convention and give us a chance now to rethink this.”
