ESPN host Pac McAfee is furious that the network plans to honor Prince Harry with the Pat Tillman Award for Service.
ESPN announced its decision Thursday.
“During The 2024 ESPYS, hosted by Serena Williams, ESPN will honor athletes and sports leaders for their courage, perseverance and service with three special accolades,” the network said in a press release.
“Steve Gleason will receive the Arthur Ashe Award for Courage, Dawn Staley will receive the Jimmy V Award for Perseverance, and Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex will receive the Pat Tillman Award for Service,” the announcement continued.

Speaking Friday on his YouTube show that’s also aired on ESPN, McAfee slammed the network for essentially disgracing the late Pat Tillman.
“Obviously football guy who had a full football career ahead of him, said naw, I need to go serve the United States of America,” McAfee said, describing Tillman’s legacy. “Ends up passing away with friendly fire, which was a whole scene unto itself.”
“Now there’s an award named after him, as there should be in the sports world because that is somebody who is the definition of selfless. It’s going to Prince Harry, who I don’t even think is a prince anymore. See, why does the ESPYs do this s–t?” he added.
“When you do something like this, you know the immediate reaction from humans and from sports fans and, like, people with like common sense and brains is going to be like, ‘Hey, don’t be putting our f–king guy with that guy,’” he continued.
“Come on man. You can celebrate sport, we should celebrate sport. Especially like, the worldwide leader should celebrate sport in the moments and everything like that. But doing something like this is just obviously trying to piss people off,” he concluded.

This sentiment is shared by many, as evidenced by the response ESPN received on social media when it published its press release:
Prince Harry the that played Xbox in a bunker and lied that he killed 25 Taliban is being awarded the Pat Tillman honor a former NFL player who gave it up to become Ranger and was killed in Afghanistan. Disgraceful!

Prince Harry receiving the Pat Tillman award is a joke. I’m sure there are more accomplished people who deserve this award. I guess it’s all in who you know. If anything, Prince Harry has exposed the shady side of awards.

Service? What service? Service to himself & his wife, maybe.
How much did Harry pay you for this award? Because you know damn well he doesn’t deserve it.
What a shame to insult Pat Tillman’s memory.

This guy. The one who blew off a memorial for Royal Marines when he was th4 Captain General in order to go to a Lion King Premier and pitch his wife?
The one who slept peacefully while US Marines died in a raid on his base and never left the comms center past a few photo ops?

So you decided to honor a man who sat beside his wife while she mocked the Queen and everything she stood for in her dying years. You’re actually honouring a man that sold his family & country down the river for a woman & cash. And who have bullied the RF since they left.… pic.twitter.com/PBzeoHqbym

Tillman was a professional NFL player who stunningly left the league in 2002 to serve overseas in the wake of the Sept. 11th terror attack.
He died on April 22nd, 2004, from what was initially believed to have been an attack from enemy combatants. It was later learned that he’d died from accidental friendly fire.
Prince Harry, meanwhile, is a former member of the Royal Family who gave up everything to run off with a spoiled American woman with a rich history of insulting and demeaning the Royal Family.
Harry is generally despised by Brits and Americans alike for pursuing his own selfish interests over service to the crown. He’s also been criticized for being a very whiny leftist who thinks he’s oppressed.
