Nelly Korda, the No. 1 ranked player in the world, has decided to withdraw from next week’s Ladies European Tour event in London after announcing that she was bitten by a dog.

Korda announced on Instagram that she was bitten by a dog in Seattle this past Saturday, the day after she missed the cut in the KPMG Women’s PGA Championship, which was held in the Northwest city. The 25-year-old wrote that she needs time to recover from her injury.

“I regret to announce that I must withdraw from next week’s Ladies European Tour tournament in London. On Saturday in Seattle, I was bitten by a dog and need time to receive treatment and recover fully,” Korda, the defending champ of next week’s Ladies European Tour event, wrote. 

“I apologize to the LET, the sponsors, and my fans for my absence. Thank you for your understanding, and I look forward to returning to the course soon.”

Korda got off to an unbelievable start this season having already won six times on the LPGA tour, including one major championship. Five of those six wins came in consecutive events, tying Annika Sorenstam and Nancy Lopez with the longest streak of consecutive wins in LPGA Tour history.

Things have slowed down in surprisingly fast fashion for Korda as of late, however, as she missed the cut at the U.S. Women’s Open in May and followed it up with another missed cut at last week’s Women’s PGA. 

Korda fired a strong three-under 69 to begin her tournament but followed it up with an 81, the highest score of her professional career. She appeared to be crying during her difficult second round in Seattle. 

Next up on the LPGA Tour schedule is the Evian Championship, the fourth major of the year on the women’s side. Hopefully, Korda will be ready to go for the major in France set to begin on July 11.
