On Wednesday, New York Yankees play-by-play man Michael Kay lost it when he heard a promo on his radio show encouraging listeners to watch the Yankees-Mets game on SNY instead of YES Network.

Of course, Kay broadcasts for the YES Network and would prefer that people listening to his radio show also watch his broadcasts of Yankees games. Normally, SNY isn’t a problem because the Yankees and Mets only play a limited number of games against one another.

However, the teams were in the midst of a two-game series this week. So, Kay heard the promo refer to SNY as the best broadcast in baseball, and he took offense.

“I think our booth is the best booth in baseball,” Kay said.

Surely, this rant made its way to the SNY crew, including Gary Cohen, Keith Hernandez and Ron Darling.

During a rain delay in Wednesday night’s game, the crew poked a little fun at Kay. Though, they really didn’t land what should have been a very easy troll job.

“The best rain in baseball?” What does that even mean? I appreciate the team referencing the Kay rant – it was pretty much a necessity after Kay lost his mind about the SNY promo.

But this should have been a home run, and instead, the SNY crew weakly sneaked a single through the right side of the infield (see what I did there?).

Michael Kay set the ball up on a tee and Keith Hernandez hit the tee instead of the ball.

As OutKick SVP Gary Schreier said to me about this exchange, “Keith and Ron aren’t going to do stand up in their next career.”

Well, that’s for sure. If the premise and set-up are already in place, and they can’t hit the punch line? That’s rough.
