Trips to Walmart tend to bring out the best in people. Whether you’re rolling down the aisles on a motorized scooter then challenging the police or trading punches at the self-checkouts, a trip to the store can go off the rails at any moment.

One such moment took place last weekend at a Walmart in Eunice, Louisiana.  A mother of a six-month-old baby decided that just because she had her baby with her there wasn’t any reason not to get into a physical altercation with another of Walmart’s finest.

She’s now facing charges, including cruelty to juveniles.  Police say she tossed her baby in a trash can before getting into a fight.  Both Brionka Benjamin, 38, and her niece, Makatelynn Benjamin, 20, were arrested.

It was your typical flip-flops, pajama pants, and no bra Saturday at the Walmart in Eunice on June 22 when, around 3:30 pm, a fight near the entrance – or exit depending on whether you’re coming or going – broke out.

The mother, Brionka, according to the Eunice Police Department and reported by KATC, was holding her infant in her arm when an argument between her and several others started.  This is when she placed the six-month-old into a trash can so that she could fight.

Anything Can And Will Happen At Walmart

When the police arrived on the scene, the fight had already ended.  But the people involved were still there and were detained by the responding officers.

The officers reviewed the surveillance video which showed the argument, the baby being thrown in the trash, and the fight.  As a result, Brionka and her niece Makatelynn were arrested.

Brionka reportedly faces a charge of simple battery and cruelty to juveniles.  Her niece also faces simple battery charges.  The six-month-old was not hurt and was released to other family members.

Now that is a Saturday afternoon at Walmart with the family.  There were lessons learned.  Most importantly, there will be no disrespecting this mom in front of her baby or her niece without the proper response.
