News of the release of Wikileaks founder Julian Assange triggered reactions on the left and right with one notable Republican slamming the “miscarriage of justice.”

According to President Joe Biden’s Justice Department, Assange is expected to plead guilty to an Espionage Act charge of conspiring to unlawfully obtain and disseminate classified national defense information.

The plea deal will free Assange from the years-long criminal case over publishing documents allegedly endangering national security.

With all the reactions pouring in, former Vice President Mike Pence expressed his anger over the deal that he said “dishonors” members of the U.S. military.

“Julian Assange endangered the lives of our troops in a time of war and should have been prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law,” Pence wrote on X.

“The Biden administration’s plea deal with Assange is a miscarriage of justice and dishonors the service and sacrifice of the men and women of our Armed Forces and their families,” Donald Trump’s former vice president added.

“There should be no plea deals to avoid prison for anyone that endangers the security of our military or the national security of the United States. Ever,” he concluded.

Pence’s strong stance did not win him any fans on the social media platform.
