‘Pirates Of The Caribbean’ Actor Tamayo Perry Dies At 49 From Shark

Tamayo Perry, a lifeguard and actor who appeared in the film “Pirates of the Caribbean,” has died at the age of 49 after a shark attack.

“In Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, the fourth in the series, starring Penélope Cruz and Johnny Depp, Perry portrayed one of the buccaneers. He is also credited as a stunt performer on the Owen Wilson surfing movie The Big Bounce, adapted from Elmore Leonard’s novel,” according to The Guardian outlet.

Perry, a well-known surfer with a reputation for being both daring and fearless, passed away on the north shore of Oahu, Hawaii, on Sunday, where he had worked for Ocean Safety and Lifeguard Services for eight years.

The man’s discovered body appeared to show signs of many shark bites, according to a caller who informed dispatchers, which was later posted in a statement from the Honolulu Emergency Services Department.

“It is with profound sadness that we mourn the loss of one of our incredibly dedicated City and County of Honolulu lifeguards, who tragically lost his life today in an apparent shark attack on the North Shore,” Honolulu Mayor Rick Blangiardi said in a statement.

Blangiardi noted that Perry “exemplified bravery, commitment, and a deep sense of duty, serving our community with unwavering dedication.”

“His heroic actions and tireless efforts to ensure the safety of our residents and visitors will never be forgotten,” he added.

During a press conference, Honolulu Ocean Safety spokesperson Shayne Enright stated that rescuers arrived by jet ski after 1 p.m. and transported Perry’s body to the shore. However, he was declared dead soon after.

Acting Ocean Safety chief Kurt Lage also mentioned that Perry was well-known in the surfing world as a professional with an “infectious personality.” One of his Instagram accounts even serve as an instructional surfing page that connects to a company website where he and his wife Emilia held private surfing lessons together.

Perry was reportedly an expert at tackling massive waves at the reef break known as the Banzai Pipeline, which is close to Ehukai Beach Park. Perry was an instructor at Oahu Surfing Experience, and in his biography, he refers to the Pipeline as “the world’s deadliest wave.”

More films that Perry has appeared in include “Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle” and “Blue Crush.” As far as television shows go, he has acted in series like “Lost” and “Hawaii: Five-O.”
