A GoFundMe campaign set up for the family of Jocelyn Nungaray, the 12-year-old Houston girl found strangled to death in a swampy creek surpassed its stated goal in a matter of hours.

Two migrants from Venezuelan who entered the United States illegally have been arrested and charged with capital murder for Jocelyn’s death after the child sneaked out of her house last week — one of the suspects had only been in the country for three weeks, and the other had been here barely three months. Both men were apprehended by Border Patrol and released on an order of recognizance with a notice to appear.

Harris County Assistant District Attorney Michael Abner said in court documents that Jocelyn was “lured” under a bridge by the two men, who held her “for over 2 hours, took her pants off, tied her up, and killed her, then threw her body into the bayou.” Police are still investigating the likelihood that the child was raped.

As of this writing, the GoFundMe account had topped $45,000 towards a declared goal of $35,000.

“Hi, my name is Victoria my best friend Lexi and her family got some devastating news early Monday morning of the loss of her beautiful daughter. Her family was not prepared for such a loss and needed help to give her daughter the memorial she deserves, to honor her memory, and to say our last goodbyes,” the campaign description says.

“Anything helps, and I ask for you to please give her and her family the time they need to grieve in peace,” the statement concludes.

A public candlelight vigil was held for the young girl on Friday night and Houston Mayor John Whitmire announced that a local businessman, Jim McIngvale, would cover funeral expenses for the family, according to KHOU.

The grieving mother, Alexis Nungaray, said of her daughter, “She was goofy. Had her own personality. One of a kind. Trendsetter. Loved, loved animals.”

“I was looking forward to seeing how beautiful she was going to be,” she added.

Alexis was reportedly told of the arrests before it was made public, and she had this to say, “We need to give them the punishment they deserve because my baby didn’t deserve this.”

America is just beginning to get a feel for the consequences of millions of illegal immigrants pouring across the southern border under the Biden administration. The invasion includes criminals and people suffering from mentally illness, as well as a number of violent gang members from Venezuela.

There have been several other recent cases of young girls allegedly being raped by illegal immigrants, including one case where a mother of five was raped and murdered.
