June is “Pride” month with an emphasis on the “P” which may as well stand for pandering when it comes to Democrats.

A Senate resolution filed on Tuesday seeks to make the government issue a formal apology to LGBT government workers who have faced discrimination in the past.

The resolution which is spearheaded by Sens. Tim Kaine (D-VA) and Tammy Baldwin (D-WI), “acknowledges and apologizes for the mistreatment of and discrimination against lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender (LGBT) individuals who have served our nation in the uniformed services, as civil servants, or in the Foreign Service.”

The largely symbolic gesture which is a sop to the very special demographic for an entire month designated to celebrate their existence, is co-sponsored by 18 Democrats.

“LGBT civil servants, foreign service officers, and servicemembers have made countless sacrifices and contributions to our country and national security. Despite this, our government has subjected them to decades of harassment, invasive investigations, and wrongful termination because of who they are or who they love,” Kaine said in a statement.

“This Pride Month, I’m proud to lead this resolution alongside Senator Baldwin to reaffirm our commitment to righting our past wrongs and fighting for equality for all LGBT Americans,” added the senator who is best known for being Hillary Clinton’s running mate during her doomed 2016 presidential campaign.

“Anyone who serves our country, whether they are in uniform or a civil servant, deserves to be treated with respect, fairness, and dignity, regardless of who they are or who they love,” Baldwin said. “I am proud to lead this effort to show our commitment to creating a more accepting, equal country that lives up to our nation’s ideals.”

“The United States has a long, disturbing history of discrimination against servicemembers and other federal employees identifying as LGBT. Beginning in the early 1940s and continuing through the 1990s, a period historians label the ‘Lavender Scare,’ thousands of federal employees were discriminated against because of their sexuality. At least 100,000 LGBT military service members were forced out of the Armed Forces between World War II and 2011, most recently due to the 1994-2011 ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell’ policy, which prohibited servicemembers from disclosing their sexual orientation,” reads a statement on Kaine’s website.

One thing that’s notable about Kaine’s statement is the omission of the letter “Q” from the acronym which recognizes the militant “Queer” community, a minuscule percentage of a very small but extremely noisy demographic. This is a sign that even Democrats are coming to realize how toxic the subgroups of what was once called the LGB movement are.

The Senate Dems dropping the “Q” is the opposite of the White House, which added yet another letter to the ever-expanding designation this year, an “I” for intersex, whatever that’s supposed to mean.

“I, JOSEPH R. BIDEN JR., President of the United States of America, by virtue of the authority vested in me by the Constitution and the laws of the United States, do hereby proclaim June 2024 as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, and Intersex Pride Month. I call upon the people of the United States to recognize the achievements of the LGBTQI+ community, to celebrate the great diversity of the American people, and to wave their flags of pride high,” President Joe Biden said in a proclamation kicking off the special month.

The co-sponsors for the Democrat resolution are Sens. Chris Coons (D-DE), Jeff Merkley (D-OR), John Fetterman (D-PA), Patty Murray (D-WA), Brian Schatz (D-HI), Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), Bob Casey (D-PA), Dick Durbin (D-IL), Edward Markey (D-MA), Richard Blumenthal (D-CT), Ben Cardin (D-MD), Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI), Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY), Michael Bennet (D-CO), Ron Wyden (D-OR), Sherrod Brown (D-OH), and Mark R. Warner (D-VA).

On the positive side, at least they’re not calling for reparations.
