While it’s no surprise that a people who subsist on pickled fish and boiled potatoes can’t handle spicy food, it is hilarious that the Danish government just labeled spicy Korean ramen as “poison”.

Poison!

The government of Denmark recalled the 2X Spicy and 3X Spicy varieties of South Korean company Samyang’s ramen saying,

Capsaicin levels in a single packet were ‘so high that they pose a risk of the consumer developing acute poisoning’.

‘If you have the products, you should discard them or return them to the store where they were purchased,’ it said in a statement.

Samyang just laughed in response.

‘We understand that the Danish food authority recalled the products, not because of a problem in their quality but because they were too spicy,’ the firm said in a statement to the BBC.

Can capsaicin be poisonous at a high level?

With the exception of inhaling a chili pepper (please don’t breathe in pepper spray), it’s not going to kill anyone, but it can be very uncomfortable.

But let’s not knock the spiciness of the Samyang spicy ramen. They’re so hot that you might as well spoon straight lava in your mouth.

Since Denmark recalled the ramen, you can imagine they’ve been the laughing stock of the world.
