When your state is overrun with a zombie apocalypse and a shoplifting epidemic, criminals start to get bored. Thus, we give you the city’s newest problem, fire hydrant thefts.

According to KTLA:

A series of fire hydrant thefts in the Florence-Firestone neighborhood of South Los Angeles has left residents without a working hydrant near their homes.

“It’s beyond annoying,” area resident Krystail Cousins said. “Why would you steal a fire hydrant? What are you going to do with a fire hydrant? … Now you have a whole neighborhood of houses that are in danger because we have no access for our fire department.”

Similar thefts have occurred in Lynwood, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

This is not the first time a California city has been subjected to brazen, unprecedented thefts of city-owned property. A couple of weeks ago, Oakland had to replace traffic lights at a busy intersection because homeless people kept destroying the traffic system to power their disgusting encampments.

Although it’s not officially confirmed, it’s probably likely that the homeless population has found use for the fire hydrant. But whether or not that is the case, the weirdo responsible for this has proven that Los Angeles is home to thugs who could care less if your house burns down, which is no surprise considering officials enable lawlessness.

According to CBS, the total combined amount of stolen fire hydrants is over $1 million. However, it’s unclear what the individual rate is on the black market but it costs the city over $3,000 to replace each one. Subsequently, they are now being locked up because that is how much of a failure the city is.

I guess catalytic converters were not enough for these people, as the supply was high and the demand may not be. And it is probably safe to say that the demand for fire hydrants is high while the supply is down. Unclear what the next weird thing thugs will steal will be, but there will be a next time.
