A very desperate Joe Biden, who is losing in most polls to former President Trump, is reportedly going to sign an executive order this week on immigration at the southern border to deal with asylum claims.

According to ABC News, the order will set a hard limit for asylum claims and will pause them once the limit is reached. Anyone who is affected by the pause will be sent back to Mexico while they wait for it to end:

President Joe Biden is expected to sign an executive order on immigration as early as this week, according to sources familiar with the decision.

The long-awaited executive order would limit the number of migrants that would be allowed to claim asylum at the southern U.S. border. It would immediately send them back to Mexico to wait until the daily average goes down and, once it goes down, they would be able to claim asylum. The exact number that would trigger a pause on claiming asylum is still under deliberations, the sources said.

In recent days, members of Congress have been briefed on the executive action, according to sources familiar with the briefings.

Mayorkas warned that the executive order will likely be challenged in court, something I expect they are counting on since this move is really only designed to give the White House and Biden’s campaign something to tout to try and boost him in the polls.
