The conviction of former President Donald Trump in his Manhattan trial has not gone the way Democrats wanted.

The convictions appear not to have affected polling, and in the aftermath of the verdicts, the former president reportedly raised more than $53 million in what may be one of the most massive backfires in the history of American politics.

Karoline Leavitt, national press secretary for the former president’s campaign, spoke to Breitbart News, where she called the trial a “witch hunt.”

“It is unprecedented. It’s historic. And it’s epic. President Trump raised more money in 24 hours than the Democrats raised last month in its entirety — and the Biden campaign,” she said, Breitbart News reported.

“We actually raised more than $34 million in just six hours after the verdict — from the verdict to midnight,” the spokeswoman said.

“They were hopeful that this trial and its shameful resulting conviction would be the end of President Trump, and they have been proven wrong. Americans see this for what it is. It is a show trial led by crooked Joe Biden, the Democrat establishment, a Democrat prosecutor Alvin Bragg, who has spent more money and time going after President Trump than going after real, violent criminals in New York City,” she said, before saying the case was “overseen by a Democrat, highly conflicted partisan judge.”

“This thing was rigged from the beginning. Americans know it, and that’s why people are fired up to support President Trump more than ever before,” the spokeswoman said.

But, she said, there has been a “palpable shift of momentum and energy towards President Trump right now.”

“Enthusiasm for President Trump and the MAGA movement is greater than it’s ever been before, and we are laser-focused on getting back on the campaign trail and bringing President Trump’s winning message to every corner of this country,” the spokeswoman said.

“And the ultimate victory is going to come on November 5,” she said.

WinRed, the payment processor for Republican campaign donations, crashed after his felony conviction, with his campaign attributing the crash to the high number of people trying to donate in the immediate aftermath of the verdict, The New York Times reported.

“So many Americans were moved to donate to President Trump’s campaign that the WinRed pages went down,” the Trump campaign said in a statement on social media.

The website no longer displays an error message when visiting the donation page for Trump’s campaign. However, it is unclear if the website is functioning properly and processing donations. The Trump campaign did not immediately respond to a request for comment, The Times reported.

While the Times report did not mention it, President Joe Biden’s campaign also quickly attempted to capitalize on the guilty verdict, Fox News reported.

“Despite a jury finding Donald Trump guilty today, there is still only one way to keep Donald Trump out of the Oval Office: At the ballot box,” the Biden campaign wrote in a fundraising text to supporters.

It further urged that “if you have been waiting for the perfect time to make your first donation to Joe Biden’s reelection campaign, we’re here to tell you today is the day.”

After WinRed went down, Trump’s campaign website also directed donors to Anedot, another fundraising platform used by various GOP campaigns.

Trump campaign spokesman Brian Hughes told Fox News, “From just minutes after the verdict, the digital fundraising system has been hit with record numbers of supporters. The traffic is so large that it is causing intermittent delays. The campaign is grateful for this massive outpouring of support because it shows that Americans have seen this sham trial as the political election interference that Biden and Democrats have always intended.”
