The man poised to temporarily succeed New York City Mayor Eric Adams if he resigns or is suspended from office is a leftist Black Lives Matter protester and socialist whose views mirror those of Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.

Jumaane Williams is his name, and he currently serves as New York City’s Public Advocate, a position previously held by current New York Attorney General Letitia James.

It was while serving in this position that he participated in the violent Black Lives Matter riots of 2020:

Williams previously served as a member of the New York City Council from 2010 to 2019, where he reportedly focused on initiatives to “reform” the police and also make life easier for incarcerated criminals.

His views are so radical that he’s repeatedly butted heads with Adams, a relatively moderate Democrat who’s pro-police on account of his previous work as a police officer.

Around the start of the year, for example, he tore into Adams after the mayor vetoed a bill that would have outlawed the use of solitary confinement for misbehaving inmates.

“With this veto, the mayor has condemned New Yorkers to suffer in solitary confinement and isolation, and he did so after the cameras were turned off and backs were turned,” he said at the time. “It’s cowardly, weak, shameful, and entirely expected from this version of this mayor.”

Speaking to the Daily Mail, Guardian Angels founder Curtis Sliwa warned that Williams would be bad — really bad — for NYC.

“A wounded Eric Adams, a weakened Eric Adams remaining in office, is better than the socialist Jumaane Williams,” he said. “That will open up the floodgates to socialism, and we will become Chicago.”

“This guy hates the cops, hates America, wears a Keffiyeh,” he added. “The police will no longer be able to function.”

He further warned that, though Williams’ mayorship would only be temporary up until a special election is held, it could still have lasting effects on the city.

“[The City Council] will pass so much legislation that he will sign and will never be able to be rescinded,” Sliwa said. “New York City will become the socialist capital of the world.”

In addition to being anti-cop, Williams is also a raging hypocrite.

“The failed gubernatorial candidate is a firm proponent of slashing the NYPD’s budget but lives in a US military base in Brooklyn that offers 24-hour security,” the Daily Mail notes.

At one point he reportedly refused to sign a warrant authorizing the collection of real estate taxes, which are essential to the city’s budget, unless the city eliminated the next class of cops.

During the COVID pandemic, Williams was a staunch advocate of keeping schools perpetually closed.

Williams is also an avid DEI advocate who cried foul when the Supreme Court rightfully banned affirmative action last year.

“With this ruling, the Supreme Court has chosen to ignore our nation’s history and jeopardize our youth’s future,” he said at the time. “The decision was entirely expected from this conservative court, but still extremely hard to hear, and to reckon with its implications on the fight for racial equity, diversity, and justice.”

All these factors have critics fearing the worst.
