Thousands of Lebanese residents fled their homes after the Israeli military warned those in southern and eastern Lebanon to evacuate before launching strikes against Hezbollah on Monday, killing more than 270 people and wounding over 1,000.

According to the Associated Press, the death toll was the largest since the 2006 Israel-Hezbollah war began.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said the strikes hit about 800 Hezbollah “terror targets” in southern Lebanon and the Bekaa Valley, according to the BBC.

Last week, communication devices exploded in different parts of the country in a targeted attack against Hezbollah. Sources have said Israel was behind the operation but the government has not confirmed its involvement.
