Texas Land Commissioner Dawn Buckingham slammed the Biden administration’s wind farm proposal, arguing that it would cause harm to the environment in the Lone Star state.

“We’ve been really entrenched and really engaged in this crazy wind farm that the Biden administration thinks that they’re going to put off our coast in federal waters that are going to harm our birds, harm our bird mammals [and] probably not survive a hurricane,” Buckingham said on the “John Solomon Reports” podcast.

In July, the Biden-Harris administration announced an offshore wind energy lease sale in the Gulf of Mexico.

“The areas to be auctioned on August 29, 2023, by the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management have the potential to generate approximately 3.7 GW and power almost 1.3 million homes with clean, renewable energy,” the Department of Interior announced.

This month, Buckingham wrote a letter to the administration arguing against the proposal, stating Texans shouldn’t have to support the economic burden of wind farms.

“They just leased roughly 150,000 acres to a company that has barely put one wind farm on soil, nothing in the water … and they think that’s a good idea and safe for the coast, and we disagree,” Buckingham said.
