Investor and entrepreneur Kevin O’Leary expressed support for President-elect Donald J. Trump’s floating the idea that Canada could become a part of the United States.

The Canadian-born O’Leary who is known as “Mr. Wonderful” on the popular reality television show “Shark Tank” weighed in on Trump’s recent mockery of Canada’s prissy leftist Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, jabbing him as “governor” and suggesting that the vast northern country be absorbed into the U.S.

During an appearance on Friday’s edition of “America’s Newsroom” on Fox News, he explained that the annexation of Canada would be a “huge opportunity” for the soon-to-be 47th president to do “something great” on the global stage.

“I think this is a great idea, and I think the potential is massive, and the opportunity is huge,” O’Leary said. “I think at the end of the day, Canadians and Americans, their DNA is the same in terms of what they believe in… freedom.”

According to O’Leary, Trump piqued the interest of “more than half” of Canadians who are interested in hearing more about the really big idea of Canada becoming the 51st state.

“There are 41 million of them who want to know more, want to understand what the proposal really is, because the concept of an economic union has been bandied around for 40 years. And it makes sense because the resources Canada has, the U.S. needs. Particularly power and water,” he said.

“No one can answer why we subsidize Canada to the tune of over $100,000,000 a year? Makes no sense! Many Canadians want Canada to become the 51st State. They would save massively on taxes and military protection. I think it is a great idea. 51st State!!!” Trump wrote in a recent post to Truth Social.

“Mr. Wonderful” also thinks that China’s increasing global presence could be a motivating factor for the U.S. and Canada to find common cause.

“The Pentagon is worried and has been for decades about the northern border where China and the USSR are. And we had NORAD (North American Aerospace Defense) decades ago, but China was a nothing burger back then, and now they’re a serious problem,” O’Leary said.

“I think in this kernel of an idea and yes, maybe it was a joke to start. There is something great here to be done, because if you figured out a way to put these two countries together, it would be the most powerful country on Earth, the most powerful military on Earth, the most powerful resources, and no adversary anywhere would mess with it. That’s the prize,” he added.

The president-elect continued to needle the embattled and deeply unpopular Trudeau this week when he suggested that NHL legend Wayne Gretzky could supplant him as Canada’s leader.

“I just left Wayne Gretzky, ‘The Great One’ as he is known in Ice Hockey circles. I said, ‘Wayne, why don’t you run for Prime Minister of Canada, soon to be known as the Governor of Canada – You would win easily, you wouldn’t even have to campaign,’” Trump said in a Christmas Day post to Truth Social.

“He had no interest, but I think the people of Canada should start a DRAFT WAYNE GRETZKY Movement,” Trump added. “It would be so much fun to watch!”

Trump’s idea is one way to liberate Canada from the despotism that it has been subjected to under Trudeau’s authoritarian left-wing government and it’s easy to see why it could be popular with Canadians.
