New York Democrat Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is being sabotaged by one of the leaders of her own Party.

Former Speaker of the House and Democrat California Rep. Nancy Pelosi is said to be working behind the scenes to stop the New York representative from becoming the top Democrat on the House Oversight Committee, Axios reported.

“The fight comes as several septuagenarian committee ranking members are facing desperate battles against – or yielding to – younger challengers,” the report said.

“Many members are concerned about [the] precedent these races are setting,” a senior House Democrat said to Axios.

“Pelosi has been approaching colleagues urging them to back Connolly over Ocasio-Cortez, according to two House Democrats with direct knowledge of her outreach,” the report said.

But the issue the former Speaker is facing is that House Oversight Committee Chairman and Kentucky Republican Rep. James Comer (R-Ky.) supports the New York Democrat’s bid to be the ranking member.

“I’m a big AOC fan,” he said in an interview on Thursday when he appeared on CNN. “Obviously, I don’t agree with very much of her policy, but I think she’s a good person; I think she’s very well-spoken.

“I did not have good relationship with Jaime Raskin, I don’t think that’s any secret,” he said to host Pamela Brown.

“I tell the press when they ask about the race for ranking member, the Democrats have nowhere to go but up after having Jamie Raskin for the last four years, so, I think AOC would be great, Gerry Connolly (D-Va.) would be great. … But I certainly look forward to working with the next ranking member,” he said.

“If it’s AOC, I think we’ll have a good working relationship. We’ll obviously have a lot of differences on policy, but I think she’s a good, well-spoken person for the Democrats to serve in that position,” he added.

During an appearance on CNN, Connolly made his case for the reason he believes he should be the ranking member.

“I don’t think this election is about generational change or an age gap. I think it’s about capability and seasoning and experience, and that’s what I’m running on. I think I’ve shown my ability, over 16 years in the committee, to take the fight to the other side and to propound and defend and advocate for democratic values,” he said on Thursday.

“I’m good with the media. I’m good with the public. I know how to interrogate witnesses, and I know how to manage a committee,” he said to anchor Dana Bash. “So those are the credentials I’m putting forward to my colleagues, and I’m feeling pretty good about it.”

But Rep. Pelosi has some bigger issues to deal with other than her work to stop Rep. Ocasio-Cortez.

She was on hand with a Congressional delegation on Friday to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge when she reportedly fell down a flight of stairs.

“While traveling with a bipartisan Congressional delegation in Luxembourg to mark the 80th anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge, Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi sustained an injury during an official engagement and was admitted to the hospital for evaluation,” a spokesperson for the former Speaker said.

“Speaker Emerita Pelosi is currently receiving excellent treatment from doctors and medical professionals.  She continues to work and regrets that she is unable to attend the remainder of the CODEL engagements to honor the courage of our servicemembers during one of the greatest acts of American heroism in our nation’s history.  Speaker Emerita Pelosi conveys her thanks and praise to our veterans and gratitude to people of Luxembourg and Bastogne for their service in World War II and their role in bringing peace to Europe,” the spokesperson said.

“Speaker Emerita Pelosi was personally and officially honored to travel with the distinguished delegation, many of whom had family members who fought in World War II — including her uncle, Johnny.  She looks forward to returning home to the U.S. soon,” they said.

Reports said Pelosi broke a hip.
