The legendary golfer Tiger Woods has just made a huge announcement that has his fans feeling both relieved and excited.

Woods’ Health Issues

Woods, 48, hasn’t played in a golfing event since July, when he missed the cut at the British Open. In September, Woods underwent microdecompression surgery for nerve impingement on his lower back.

Woods was supposed to make his comeback last week at the Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas. Sadly, Woods was forced to withdraw just days before the event, apparently because he was still recovering from his surgery. This led fans to speculate that Woods would finish 2024 without competing in another event.

Thankfully, it appears that Woods isn’t quite done for the year after all.

Woods Returns To Golf With His Son

Woods has announced that he will be competing at the PNC Championship in Orlando, Florida next week. He will compete in this event with his son Charlie, 15, for the fifth year in a row.

“I’m very excited to head back to the PNC Championship next week with Charlie,” Woods said in a statement. “Playing together is something we look forward to and it’s always more special when you’re surrounded by friends and family.”

Last year, Woods and his son tied for fifth place. The big winners at that event were Bernhard Langer and his son, Jason.

Though Woods couldn’t compete in the Hero World Challenge, he still flew to the Bahamas to help host the event. There, he admitted that he’s “got a long way to go” before he can make a return to professional golf. However, he made sure to add that the “fire still burns to compete.”

Woods went on to say that “the body just won’t recover like it used to.”

“I’m not physically ready yet to compete at this level,” he explained. “The times I have come back here, I was ready to start competing and playing again. Unfortunately, not this time. I still need to keep training to give myself the best chance going into next year and the events ahead.”

Woods’ Back Kept ‘Getting Worse’

Woods also said that as 2024 went on, his back “just kept progressively getting worse to the point where it just wasn’t getting better either from treatments or laying around resting…nothing felt good and (an) MRI showed that.”

“I’m just progressively trying to test it, keep making progress without setting it off,” Woods continued. “I don’t want to have any setbacks, just want to keep making progress and give myself the best chance going into next year as possible. I feel like I’m getting stronger, I’m getting more pliable, but I’ve got a long way to go to be able to compete against these guys.”

Despite everything that he’s been through, Woods is still hopeful that “next year will be better.”

Clearly, getting to play the sport that he loves with his son means the world to Woods. We can only hope that Woods stays healthy enough to have a blast with Charlie at this event!
