This comes as Trump prepares to install Kash Patel, a former federal prosecutor at the Department of Justice as his new choice for FBI Director.

Sources close to the FBI have confirmed to the Daily Scoop that Wray is set to leave his post, a decision that is seen as a strategic move to avoid potential firing by Trump. The news comes as a scathing letter from Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA), the incoming chairman of the Judiciary Committee, calls for Wray to step down immediately, citing allegations that the FBI has been politicized under his leadership.

The demand for Wray’s resignation is deeply intertwined with Trump’s fury over the FBI’s raid on Mar-a-Lago. During an interview with NBC News, Trump made his feelings clear: “He invaded my home. The raid, which took place in 2022, was part of an investigation into potentially classified documents found at Trump’s Florida estate, a move that the incoming president sees as a direct affront to his privacy and authority.

When the president was shot in the ear at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, Wray suggested that the injury could have been caused by shrapnel. Trump, was quick to call out this statement, saying, “Where’s the shrapnel coming from? Is it coming from heaven? I don’t think so.”

Grassley’s letter to Wray makes it crystal clear that his leadership is no longer welcome: “For the good of the country, it’s time for you and your deputy to move on to the next chapter in your lives.”

As the pressure mounts, Trump seems intent on replacing Wray with Patel, a long-time critic of federal law enforcement agencies. Patel’s nomination is a clear indication of Trump’s vision for the FBI: a director who is not afraid to push back against what he sees as overly aggressive or politically motivated investigations.

Patel’s suitability for the FBI director role questioned by critics

Patel’s suitability for the role has been met with skepticism. He has little of the law enforcement and management experience typically associated with the job. His comments about the FBI, describing it as part of the “deep state” and calling for its “purging,” have also raised serious concerns about his ability to maintain the independence and integrity of the agency.

Experts warn that a change in direction so soon after a change in administration, especially without a smooth transition, could further erode public trust in the FBI and set back efforts to reform and modernize the agency.
