A group of over 250 veterans on Monday signed a letter that supported former Democratic Hawaii Rep. Tulsi Gabbard’s nomination for director of national intelligence.

President-elect Donald Trump nominated Gabbard for the position last month, after she officially became a Republican during his presidential campaign and endorsed his bid for presidency. She left the Democratic Party in 2022.

Gabbard has been heavily criticized recently over her allegations that she promoted Russian propaganda and was sympathetic to former Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. She has also been criticized for not being tough on Iran.

The letter on Monday claimed that the allegations against Gabbard are “baseless” and praised her “lifelong devotion” to the United States.

“We are appalled by the baseless attacks questioning Tulsi’s loyalty to our great nation,” the veterans wrote, per The Hill. “For over 20 years and across multiple combat deployments, Tulsi has risked her life to defend the safety, security and freedom of the American people. These attacks insult not only her, but every one of us veterans who have served our country.”

Gabbard served in the Army National Guard for two decades, before switching to the Army Reserves where she remains as a Lieutenant Colonel.

The veterans also expressed gratitude to Trump for selecting Gabbard for the intelligence role, claiming she was a “warrior whose vote cannot be bought, and whose integrity cannot be folded.”

The letter was signed by Trump’s former acting Secretary of Defense Chris Miller and former National Security Adviser Michael Flynn, and Reps. Brian Mast of Florida, and Eli Crane of Arizona, among others.
