One of the ways that leftist entertainers reinforce the cartoon of their intolerance of their audience is my going to European film festivals and seeking sympathy abroad over what a mountain of morons they have to live with in America. This was guaranteed to happen after all of their rantings and ravings about Donald Trump fell on deaf ears.

But who could possibly be the worst abuser of the public than Alec Baldwin, who shot a woman dead and is at the rock bottom of his appeal as a movie star? Shooter McBaldwin showed up at the Turin Film Festival in Italy to say at least half of America are “very uninformed about reality.”

Because in the aura of his own presumed brilliance, Baldwin can’t seem to locate any reasons people would be ready to turn on the Democrats after four years: start with dramatic inflation, the Afghanistan withdrawal fiasco, and the costs of mass importation (and the violent crime that came with it). Those are “Fox News issues,” so they’re automatically discredited as legitimate issues.

“Television news in the United States is a business. They have to make money,” Baldwin said. This is a daffy thing to say, since the movie business is a business. They have to make money.

Somehow the profit motive is ruining democracy.

“There’s a hole. There’s a vacuum. There is a gap, if you will, in information for Americans. Americans are very uninformed about reality – what’s really going on, with climate change, Ukraine, Israel — You name it, all the biggest topics in the world, Americans have an appetite for a little bit of information.” He held up his thumb and forefinger — his trigger finger — to demonstrate the tiny attention span of Americans.

Call us dumb, but none of us were so dumb we killed a woman because we didn’t check if our gun had real ammo in it.

Then came Sharon Stone, who couldn’t just insult the Trump-voting half of America, but the entire country as a bunch of arrogant adolescents. This is where you start to wonder if this isn’t just political. It’s a bitter actress, a flamed-out femme fatale who hasn’t been a movie star in this century.

“You know, Italy has seen fascism. Italy has seen these things. You guys, you understand what happens. You have seen this before. My country is in its adolescence. Adolescence is very arrogant. Adolescence thinks it knows everything. Adolescence is naive and ignorant and arrogant, and we are in our ignorant, arrogant adolescence. We haven’t seen this before in our country. So, Americans who don’t travel, who 80 percent don’t have a passport, who are uneducated, are in their extraordinary naivete.”

Then came some babbling about women shouldn’t just depend on other women to survive, but on “good men” overcoming the “bad men.” This apparently means the men who voted for Trump.

Baldwin and Stone ought to make a bitter movie together — for European audiences, about how stupid Americans are. It probably wouldn’t sell that many tickets in America. Or maybe it would — to supercilious leftists who think they’re so much smarter than the rest of us.
