The eye-popping amount US taxpayers paid for Jack Smith’s BS prosecution

Special Council Jack Smith, who has recently moved to dismiss the cases against President-elect Donald Trump, has cost the taxpayers a lot of money.

According to Fox News Digital, financial documents show Smith’s investigations have cost Americans $50 million; a lot of money considering the cases went nowhere.

“Financial disclosures from the Special Counsel’s Office show that from mid-November 2022, when Smith was appointed special counsel, until March 31, 2023, his office incurred costs of about $9.25 million,” the outlet reported. “A second disclosure laying out the office’s expenditures for the following six months showed the office’s spending increased to roughly $14.66 million. Meanwhile, a third expenditure report, the latest available, showed that from Oct. 1, 2023, to March 31, 2024, Smith’s office spent roughly $11.84 million.”

This figure is expected to grow, as the financial numbers for April 1, 2024, and Sept. 30, 2024, have not been released, “but the average of the three reported periods is roughly $12 million.”

“When that estimate is added to the numbers from the three reporting periods that have been publicly reported, the amount spent by Smith’s office since he was appointed rounds to about $47.5 million,” the Fox report explained. Newsweek also noted that when the final numbers are added to the running total, it will likely be over the $50 million mark.

On Monday, Smith filed to dismiss the cases against Trump, as current procedural standards prevent the prosecution of a sitting president. The judge has opted to dismiss the charges in the election interference case, however, a decision in the classified documents case is still pending.

Trump issued a response to the Monday dismissal, once again saying that he was subjected to “empty and lawless” investigations that “should never have been brought.”

“These cases, like all of the other cases I have been forced to go through, are empty and lawless, and should never have been brought. Over $100 Million Dollars of Taxpayer Dollars has been wasted in the Democrat Party’s fight against their Political Opponent, ME. Nothing like this has ever happened in our Country before,” he wrote. “They have also used State Prosecutors and District Attorneys, such as Fani Willis and her lover, Nathan Wade (who had absolutely zero experience in cases such as this, but was paid MILLIONS, enough for them to take numerous trips and cruises around the globe!), Letitia James, who inappropriately, unethically, and probably illegally, campaigned on ‘GETTING TRUMP’ in order to win Political Office, and Alvin Bragg, who himself never wanted to bring this case against me, but was forced to do so by the Justice Department and the Democrat Party….”
