Conservative commentator Steve Bannon lamented the uni-party’s torpedoing of Matt Gaetz to be President-elect Donald J. Trump’s attorney general.
On Friday’s edition of his “War Room” podcast, the political strategist described Gaetz’s withdrawal from consideration as a “casualty” in the war against the Deep State while tearing into GOP senators loyal to Mitch McConnell who made it clear that they would not confirm him.
“This fight goes back to the revolution. That’s why I said, when I say we are, we are linked by patriot graves all the way back to the beginning. We answer to them, we answer to their memory,” Bannon began, painting the sinking of Gaetz in sweeping historical terms.
Bannon: We took a casualty with @mattgaetz today. You can’t leave ppl out there to take nonstop hits with no support. Where’s the plan and execution? This is a major defeat for Trump, and trust me, those demons up there in the Senate, McConnell and them, they know it. pic.twitter.com/haEHD5w5bc

“We took a casualty today. One of the best warriors we have, in all his imperfections — and he’s quite imperfect, as Donald Trump is imperfect, as Stephen K. Bannon is super imperfect,” he said, adding that Trump allies Tucker Carlson, Vivek Ramaswamy, Elon Musk, Tulsi Gabbard and Robert F. Kennedy Jr. are also imperfect.
“But in that imperfection, is some of their power,” he added.
“We took a casualty today. One of the reasons we took a casualty, I hate to say it and let me be brutally frank,” he continued. “You can’t stick these people out there with no air cover. What are we doing?”
“You can’t stick them out there and take them off television. They’re the best at selling themselves. You take them off television for five, six, seven, eight days, and it’s nothing but incoming. Where is the plan and where is the execution of the plan?” Bannon asked.
“It’s a big defeat for President Trump today,” he concluded. “And trust me, those demons and jackals and hyenas up there in the United States Senate, Mitch McConnell, that crowd, they know it. They know it.”
On Thursday, Gaetz withdrew amid a vicious smear campaign driven by salacious sleaze dug up by allies of former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy on the Ethics Committee, sex-soaked slime that was being leaked to a media that works hand-in-hand with the Deep State.
“All of them were hand-picked by Kevin McCarthy, and they had an axe to grind,” Gaetz said of the committee members during an appearance on Charlie Kirk’s show. “So that was going to serve as at least enough of a basis to delay my confirmation as attorney general. If the things [in] the House Ethics report were true, I would be under indictment and probably in a prison cell.”

“I had excellent meetings with Senators yesterday. I appreciate their thoughtful feedback – and the incredible support of so many. While the momentum was strong, it is clear that my confirmation was unfairly becoming a distraction to the critical work of the Trump/Vance Transition. There is no time to waste on a needlessly protracted Washington scuffle, thus I’ll be withdrawing my name from consideration to serve as Attorney General. Trump’s DOJ must be in place and ready on Day 1,” he wrote in a statement posted to X.
“I remain fully committed to see that Donald J. Trump is the most successful President in history. I will forever be honored that President Trump nominated me to lead the Department of Justice and I’m certain he will Save America,” Gaetz said.
McConnell along with Sens. Susan Collins (R-Maine), Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska), and newly elected John Curtis (R-Utah) – who’s off to a roaring start as Mitt Romney’s replacement – were the “Gang of Four” saboteurs who refused to confirm Gaetz, according to The New York Times.
They will also represent a serious obstacle to the confirmation of other swamp outsiders tapped by Trump who once again will be undercut by McConnell and his minions in his second term.
“We’ve got to face the facts. There’s blood in the water, and they smell the blood,” Bannon also said. “They understand that we could either all hang together, or we’re going to hang separately. They get this. This is why they’re going to try to drive wedges in and try to cull the herd.”
