Ladies and gentlemen, this is why you always use a butter knife to separate frozen burger patties.

As always, take this as an opportunity to learn from the mistakes of others. Unfortunately this man’s mistake was fatal.

57-year-old Barry Griffiths was a “very private man,” and a new story this week say he accidentally stabbed himself in July 2023 with a chef’s knife in his Wales apartment while attempting to separate a pair of frozen burger patties.

Here’s what the knife he used likely looked like:

Here’s the description of how they found Mr. Griffiths after he hadn’t been heard from for a week:

He was found fully clothed and with dried blood on his stomach, whilst blood splatters were found throughout his kitchen and bathroom.

His phone, wallet, and computer had not been touched and there was no sign of a struggle in the first-floor apartment.

It was only when officers found the frozen burger, that they were able to determine what happened.

Investigators say the freezer door was open and the countertop next to the fridge contained the knife and the two uncooked burgers. The dried up wound in Griffiths’s abdomen was at the same level as the counter top.

The medical examiner, Patricia Morgan, eventually ruled that Griffiths most likely died from an accident and not a suicide …

Dr Richard Jones, a Home Office pathologist, gave the cause of death as blood loss through sharp force injury.

Such a sad story to report here. It sounds like Griffiths was struggling quite a bit in that apartment and unfortunately wasn’t able to make contact with the outside world during his struggle.
