Congressman Warren Davidson, R-Ohio., says that there needs to be new leadership in the current GOP-led House of Representatives.

“I think we have to,” Davidson answered when asked if Republicans would consider new leadership on the “John Solomon Reports” podcast. “First and foremost, we want to make sure we’re electing a speaker, so we need to grow our majorities. We can’t lose control of the House.”

The House on Wednesday voted to pass a stopgap to fund the government for three months in order to avoid a government shutdown.

Eighty-two Republicans voted against the continuing resolution, with many arguing that these constant continuing resolutions don’t responsibly fund the government.

“None of our body really believes this is what we came here to do,” Davidson said. “It might feel like it’s necessary. We don’t have better options. There’s a lot of frustration. But … at the end of the day, we need to unite behind a plan.”

Davidson said the House needs to get behind a plan, then find a leader who can accomplish that objective.

“I think that’s where we landed after Kevin McCarthy was removed,” he said. “Everyone just united behind Mike Johnson, because he’s someone everyone likes. But we haven’t yet united behind a plan.”
