Joe’s got a new idea. Well, it’s an new idea married with a old idea. The Biden Administration is pushing to pause the federal gas tax for 3-months to alleviate pain at the pump, while still rolling with its “Putin Price Hike” narrative.

The White House shared the news on Twitter.

“Today, @POTUS is calling on Congress to suspend the federal gas tax for 3 months and is calling on states to find similar ways to deliver relief. This will give families breathing room as he continues his work to bring down prices for the long haul.”

Then, the White House dropped this old tune in a statement:

“President Biden understands that high gas prices pose a significant challenge for working families,” a White House statement said. “Today, he is calling on Congress and states to take additional legislative action to provide direct relief to American consumers who have been hit with Putin’s Price Hike.” (Emphasis ours.)

The U.S. Energy Information Administration says the government imposes a gas tax of $0.184 per gallon of gasoline and $0.244 per gallon of diesel. Techinically, it’s something. But far from the solution Americans need.

The average price for a gallon of gas in the U.S. is currently $4.95; it was $2.39 when Biden took office.
