Prominent public health official Dr. Anthony Fauci has tested positive for COVID-19 despite getting fully vaccinated and receiving two boosters.
“Today, Anthony S. Fauci, M.D., director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), part of the National Institutes of Health, and Chief Medical Advisor to President Biden, tested positive for COVID-19 on a rapid antigen test,” the NIAID announced on Wednesday.
“He is fully vaccinated and has been boosted twice. He is currently experiencing mild symptoms. Dr. Fauci will isolate and continue to work from his home. He has not recently been in close contact with President Biden or other senior government officials. Dr. Fauci will follow the COVID-19 guidelines of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and medical advice from his physician and return to the NIH when he tests negative,” the press release added.
Fauci, who has served as the NIAID director for well over three decades, is just one of the many people who have tested positive for the illness despite being vaccinated.
U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra tested positive in May and tested positive again on Monday — in both cases the “fully vaccinated and boosted” secretary had light symptoms, according to statements from assistant secretary for public affairs Sarah Lovenheim.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau recently revealed that he had tested positive for COVID-19 — the announcement came after Trudeau had previously tested positive for the illness in January.
“I’ve tested positive for COVID-19. I’ll be following public health guidelines and isolating. I feel okay, but that’s because I got my shots. So, if you haven’t, get vaccinated – and if you can, get boosted. Let’s protect our healthcare system, each other, and ourselves,” Trudeau said in a tweet on Monday.
Fauci, who has been a staunch proponent of COVID-19 vaccination, delivered a speech during Princeton University’s 2022 Class Day last month in which he warned against accepting “the normalization of untruths.”
“Sadly, elements of our society have grown increasingly inured to a cacophony of falsehoods and lies that often stand largely unchallenged, ominously leading to … acceptance of what I call the normalization of untruths. We see this happen daily with falsehoods propagated through a range of information platforms by a spectrum of people, including, sad to say, certain elected officials in positions of power,” Fauci said.
“If you take away nothing else from what I say today, I appeal to you, please remember this: It is our collective responsibility not to shrug our shoulders and sink to a tacit acceptance of the normalization of untruths. Because if we do, lies become dominant and reality is distrorted, and then truth means nothing, integrity means nothing, and facts means nothing. This is how a society deteriorates into a way of life where veracity becomes subservient to propaganda, rather than being upheld as our guiding principle,” he declared.
