Roughly 90 women are collectively filing lawsuits against the FBI for $1B over its handling of the allegations against convicted sex criminal Larry Nassar. The group, including former Team USA gymnasts Simone Biles and McKayla Maroney, claims the FBI failed to act after the organization informed the FBI of the sexual assault allegations in Indianapolis in July 2015 and again in Los Angeles in May 2016. Neither office informed Michigan authorities of the charges and Nassar was not arrested until late 2016, after a separate investigation by Michigan State University. In that timeframe, the report alleges Nassar victimized nearly 70 women and girls.

The news comes two weeks after the FBI announced the agents who allegedly mishandled the case would not be charged. The Justice Department found in July 2021 that the FBI made numerous errors when it failed to respond to the allegations.

The group joins 13 other gymnasts who filed $130M in claims against the FBI in April. Multiple settlements have already been secured concerning Nassar. See our previous write-up here.
