On Wednesday, Dan Abrams announced on his show “Dan Abrams Live” that “Live PD” will be coming back. The show will be airing Friday and Saturday nights on Reelz with a new title “On Patrol: Live”. The full announcement can be seen at the end of the article.
Abrams also announced he will continue to host the show, Sean Larkin one of his co-hosts from “Live PD” will be joining him on this reboot. The show will change slightly, they will be adding new police departments as well as showing civilian ride-along with officers, according to Abrams.
Abrams shared, “First, I want to say thank you to the ‘Live PD’ nation. I know this wait was long, but we needed the right platform to make this show what it should be. As many of you know, I have been advocating for this show to return since the day it went off of the air.”
Live PD was canceled in June of 2020, following weeks of riots after the death of George Floyd. The show’s end also came on the heels of a report that a crew from the show filmed the death of another Black man in police custody.
A&E gave this statement when canceling the show, “This is a critical time in our nation’s history and we have made the decision to cease production on Live PD. Going forward, we will determine if there is a clear pathway to tell the stories of both the community and the police officers whose role it is to serve them. And with that, we will be meeting with community and civil rights leaders as well as police departments.”
News Anchor with ABC Columbia in South Carolina Curtis Wilson shared his excitement to be back with a tweet.
