At least 19 children and two teachers were killed after a gunman opened fire at Robb Elementary in Uvalde, Texas, located roughly 80 miles west of San Antonio. It marks the worst attack on a US elementary school since 2012, when 20 children and six adults were killed at Sandy Hook Elementary in Newtown, Connecticut. Partial details on the victims were available as of this morning.

Police said the suspect, identified as 18-year-old Salvador Ramos, died at the scene. No motive has been identified, and officials said Ramos, a student at the town’s high school, had a limited social media presence. Reports suggest he shot and killed his grandmother before heading to Robb Elementary.

The attack came just 10 days after a gunman killed 10 people in a racially motivated attack in Buffalo, New York, and one month after a shooter targeted a school in Washington, DC, injuring four.

Summer break was set to begin at Robb Elementary tomorrow.
