Senator Tom Cotton (R-AR) stopped by Fox News’ the The Faulkner Focus to discuss Biden invoking the Defense Production Act in an effort to get much-needed baby formula back on the shelves; reports say stock is down more than 40%. The Biden Administration plans to fly in formula from other countries —a plan Cotton says may not be very helpful.

“The formula shortage is rank, reprehensible incompetence by the Biden Administration. They should have taken these steps months ago. The steps they are taking now won’t have a major effect for months to come. but the FDA should have gotten off its duff long ago and authorize that plant in Michigan to reopen,” Cotton says.

“The FDA at root is one of the main reasons why we have this formula shortage.”

Cotton shared the clip on Twitter with the following comment:

“The Biden administration’s incompetence caused the nation’s formula shortage. Their response is too little too late.”

The Biden Administration announced on Wednesday that Biden had invoked the Defense Production Act.

From The New York Post…

The dramatic actions come after critics slammed Biden for not acting more quickly to avert empty store shelves across the country linked to the closure in February of an Abbott Nutrition factory in Michigan.

Biden resisted for about a week mounting pressure from Congress — including from Sens. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) and Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) — to use the 1950 law that allows federal interventions in private business decisions.

The Trump administration previously invoked the Defense Production Act to boost COVID-19 medical supplies in the early days of the pandemic.

“This is an artificial shortage here in America created by the Biden Administration’s incompetence,” Cotton concludes.
