As expected, the Senate bill to expand ‘abortion rights’ and force them on all states in the name of Roe v Wade has officially failed.
It was never going to pass because Democrats needed 60 votes and everyone knew it.
But Democrats couldn’t even get 50 votes because Joe Manchin did as he said and voted with Republicans:
NBC NEWS – The Senate failed to advance a Democratic-led bill Wednesday that would enshrine broad protections for legal abortion nationwide, a vote triggered by a leaked Supreme Court draft opinion that indicates Roe v. Wade will likely be overturned.
The Women’s Health Protection Act, which has passed the House, won 49 votes, falling far short of the 60 senators needed to break a filibuster.
All 50 Republicans and Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., voted against proceeding to debate.
This means that not only did Joe Manchin side with Republicans, but that Republicans didn’t lose anyone to the Democrats, like RINO Lisa Murkowski.
Now you might think that’s significant, but in reality it’s not since the bill was never going to pass. Murkowski’s vote for the bill wouldn’t have mattered so she’d have been a fool to choose this hill to die on, so to speak.
I think if the vote had mattered, however, it might have been a different story with Murkowski and perhaps Collins.
But Democrats losing Manchin’s vote does kinda put a cinch in their narrative that Republicans are the only women haters, which is why I think his opposition was significant.
Either way, this kabuki abortion bill is never going to accomplish what Democrats are hoping it will, which is to turn the tide in November. With gas prices breaking new records across the country and inflation continuing to soar, they are still in for a political slaughter.
