Secretary of State Antony Blinken and Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin visited Kyiv yesterday, marking the highest-level trip by US officials to Ukraine since the beginning of the Russian invasion two months ago. The pair reportedly met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to discuss Western support as Russia pursues a focused offensive in the country’s eastern Donbas region (see 101).
Despite Russia’s focus on eastern Ukraine, its forces have continued to attack various parts of Ukraine with long-range munitions. At least eight people were killed, including an infant, after Russian missiles fell on the southern city of Odesa.
Separately, Ukrainian officials over the weekend estimated the cost to rebuild the country—pending the war’s outcome—at around $600B.
The continued attacks came while much of the region celebrated Orthodox Easter. See photos here.
